Description
UNC Nicaragua 1 Centavo Banknote ND (1991) – Córdoba Oro – Pick P-167
Add a colourful and historically significant piece of Central American currency to your collection with this Nicaragua 1 Centavo banknote issued in 1991. Presented in Uncirculated (UNC) condition, this attractive low-denomination note formed part of the first Córdoba Oro series introduced following Nicaragua’s major currency reform.
The Third Córdoba, also known as the Córdoba Oro, was introduced in 1991 to stabilise the nation’s economy after years of severe inflation. The new currency replaced the previous Córdoba at a rate of 1 Córdoba Oro = 5,000,000 old Córdobas, making these early issues an important part of Nicaragua’s monetary history.
The obverse features a portrait of Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, the Spanish conquistador who founded Nicaragua and for whom the country’s currency is named. The reverse displays the Coat of Arms of Nicaragua alongside the Sacuanjoche, Nicaragua’s national flower. Printed by Harrison & Sons Ltd. of England, the note is catalogued as Pick P-167 and measures approximately 120 × 53 mm.
