Description

Licinius I (308–324 A.D.)
Jupiter with Captive Reverse
Ancient Roman Bronze Coin (AE3)
19mm | 2.65g

A genuine bronze coin of Licinius I, Roman Emperor and rival of Constantine the Great, struck during the final years before his defeat in 324 A.D.

Obverse: Laureate head of Licinius I facing right.
Reverse: IOVI CONSERVATORI — Jupiter standing left, holding Victory on globe and scepter; captive seated at foot, symbolizing Roman dominance over its enemies.

Date: 321–324 A.D.
Diameter: 19mm
Weight: 2.65 grams
Material: Bronze (AE3)
Condition: Well-preserved with clear legends and strong reverse detail. Attractive patina with natural age.

This powerful reverse type emphasizes Jupiter as protector of the emperor and the Roman state, while the captive imagery proclaims military strength and authority during a time of civil conflict.

An excellent example of late Roman imperial coinage and an important piece from the era of Constantine and Licinius.
