Description

Constantius II (337–361 A.D.)
Fallen Horseman – Spearing Type
Ancient Roman Bronze Coin (AE2)
347–361 A.D. | 23mm | 6.6g

A large and impressive bronze of Constantius II, one of the sons of Constantine the Great, struck during the mid-4th century at the height of the FEL TEMP REPARATIO coinage reform.

Obverse: Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constantius II facing right with imperial titles.
Reverse: Roman soldier advancing left, spearing a fallen horseman — the famous FEL TEMP REPARATIO (“Restoration of Happy Times”) type, symbolizing Rome’s renewed strength and victory over barbarian enemies.

Date: 347–361 A.D.
Diameter: 23mm
Weight: 6.6 grams
Material: Bronze (AE2)
Condition: Large module example with strong eye appeal. Clear devices and legends with attractive patina and honest wear consistent with age.

The Fallen Horseman reverse is among the most dramatic and widely collected designs of the Late Roman Empire. Larger AE2 examples such as this are particularly desirable for their size, weight, and bold detail.

An excellent and substantial piece of Constantinian-era Roman history — ideal for both advanced and beginning collectors.
