Description
The Five decide to bike to Billycock Hill, where Julian and Dick’s school friend Toby lives on a farm. Toby has all the camping equipment the Five will need, so they can camp high up on the hill overlooking the countryside—and a nearby secret airfield. The Five set off and travel six miles along country lanes before they stop for an ice cream. After ten minutes’ rest, they set off again and have lunch around one o’clock. They continue their journey, eager to reach their destination and begin their adventure.
Upon arrival, they discover that Toby’s cousin, Jeff, a Royal Air Force pilot, has been involved in a mysterious incident. Jeff and his friend Ray had flown off late one stormy night with the newest aeroplanes, and the media claimed they had flown away and drowned by the sea. The Five, along with Toby, are determined to uncover the truth behind Jeff’s disappearance and the strange happenings at the airfield.
