An ohmmeter is a device used to measure electrical resistance, which is expressed in ohms (Ω). Resistance is how much a material or component opposes the flow of electric current.

How it works:

An ohmmeter sends a small current through the component and measures how much voltage drops across it. Then, using Ohm’s Law (R = V/I), it calculates the resistance.

Types of ohmmeters:

1. Analog ohmmeters – Use a needle gauge to show resistance.

2. Digital ohmmeters (part of a multimeter) – Display resistance as a number on a screen. Uses:

• Testing wires or circuit components to see if they’re broken or intact.

• Checking resistors to verify their value.
