About M.V. Dominion Monarch

Launched in 1938 and entering service in 1939, M.V. Dominion Monarch was operated by the Shaw, Savill & Albion Line. The luxury motor vessel primarily served routes linking the United Kingdom, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, carrying passengers in comfort across some of the world’s longest sea voyages.

During the Second World War, Dominion Monarch was requisitioned as a troopship, transporting thousands of Allied servicemen across the globe. Following the war, she returned to civilian service and resumed her role as a passenger liner, becoming a familiar sight on voyages to Australia and New Zealand throughout the 1950s.

The vessel remained in service until 1962, when changing travel habits and the rise of commercial air travel brought an end to an era of luxury ocean liner travel.
