A substantial and impressive bronze issue of Gordian III, struck at the ancient Black Sea city of Odessos (modern Varna, Bulgaria).
Obverse: Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III facing right.
Reverse: The Great God of Odessos standing in temple or shrine setting, holding attributes associated with the city’s chief deity — a distinctive and highly collectible provincial type.
