Blood Velvet is a 1954 maritime novel by British author Alan Kennington, also known as Gilbert Alan Kennington. Set in the Caribbean during 1781, the story revolves around themes of love and revenge, capturing the tumultuous period of British naval history. The novel is recognized for its vivid portrayal of the sea and its complex character dynamics.
Kennington, born in 1906, was a prolific British writer and playwright, particularly known for his thrillers. Two of his novels were adapted into films: The Night Has Eyes (1939), made into a 1942 film of the same title, and She Died Young (1938), turned into the 1956 film You Can’t Escape. His 1949 novel Pastures New was a comedy about American students in post-war Britain.
