Antique Japanese Satsuma-Style Teacup & Saucer – Hand Painted Floral Decoration

A beautiful antique Japanese teacup and saucer, featuring richly hand-painted floral decoration in the traditional Satsuma style.

The cup and saucer are decorated with an intricate arrangement of chrysanthemums and other flowers, painted in deep red, purple, blue, green, black and gilt tones. The detailed decoration is complemented by fine gilded highlights and a warm cream-coloured crackle-glazed ground, giving the set the characteristic appearance associated with Japanese Satsuma wares.

The cup has a rounded form with a substantial loop handle, while the matching saucer features a wide decorated border and gilded rim.

The underside of the cup carries a small impressed or painted diamond-shaped maker’s mark. The mark is somewhat indistinct and has not been conclusively attributed, so the piece is offered as Japanese Satsuma-style ware rather than being attributed to a specific workshop or maker.
